Hey~ Here is a compo written by a 14 yr old friend of mine. I think it's a good written compo and I wanna share with you guys out there ;)
Title:“Money is the root of all evil. Do you agree?”
Paper bills metallic coins, plastic cards. As innocuous as this façade may, the value behind money is beyond our comprehension. Society thrives on it, a nation cannot develop without it. Whether we realize it or not, in our modern era, our individual lives revolve around money. Is money a pecuniary pro or con? The seesaw can swing either way and with the mere mention of the crisp dollar note, it surfaces to mind an adage, “money is the root of all evil.”
Most people are ambivalent regarding this sensitive issue of money. Take something as prosaic as earning a monthly income after arduous hours of hard work and dedication at one’s workplace, only to be inveigled by the casinos and gambling dens where millions of money are squandered off annually. Paradoxically, a person may exit the casino a richer or poorer person than when he first set foot into it. The allusion behind the statement, “money is the root of all evil” lies in the fact that firsthand winners may be subjected to the illusion that gambling is an easy and sure means of obtaining fast cash, ultimately leading to a possible addiction. The less fortunate may not be dissuaded from patronizing casinos even after enduring heavy losses because they choose to believe instead, that luck would one day come to them. Such unhealthy obsessions are cultivated solely for the sake of money.
Furthermore, numerous crimes have been closely linked to the crisp dollar note, money. If we trace the reasons behind these crimes, it is evident that money is the prevalent factor. Criminals in need of money were left with no alternatives but to resort to despicable means like stealing to get hold of it. A classic example would be the recent case that stirred an uproar throughout Singapore, Priest Joaquim. Priest Joaquim, a supposedly holy and righteous figure, gave in to the alluring temptation of money and embezzled a prodigious amount, accumulating to almost five million dollars from the church, leading him to commit such an unpardonable crime. Ultimately Priest Joaquim is a veracious reflecting of the statement. This affirms that money can lure humans to be led astray.
On top of that, it is also not unwonted to hear of young women with promising futures who demean themselves for the sake of money, by soliciting. It is ironic that they should allow groups of debauched men to lay their hands on them, just so that they themselves can lay their hands on the large sums of money that the men have to offer. Not only is it unethical to betray one’s body for opulence, it is also undeniably an act that goes against one’s values. Money exudes such allure that the women are willing to forgo their dignity just so that they can proliferate the exiguous amount of money that they have in their pockets. It is patent that money is the impetus that prods these women into jobs that are notorious for its sleazy nature and situations that end with broken family and innocent parties harmed. Hence, it is evident that “money is the root of all evil”.
Yet without money, basic necessities cannot be met. We have to acknowledge the fact that everything in this pragmatic society seems to have a price tag slapped onto it. However, we have to bear in mind that through fulfilling our materialistic wants, we end up sacrificing our moral ethics or beliefs to obtain more cash to satisfy our human cravings for superficial valuables.
In conclusion, it is apparent that money is an indomitable cause of countless immoral acts and is the enticing bait that lures ordinary citizens to commit extraordinary crimes. In a renegade quest for fast cash, people are liable to forget and forgo their ethics as the dreams of wealth and fortune impose on them like edifice. These crimes sprout and branch out like a tree, with money as its beguiling roots, and as long as humanity continues evolving, so will these roots.
